Right, catching up with the SPN I missed after being on vacation.
Overall, I'm glad they've finally stopped pussyfooting around the Apocalypse. I was getting fed up with that shit. I have to admit at this point that my actual watching of the show is somewhat spotty because some of it just frustrates me beyond belief and/or I try to skip stupid or silly shit that comes up in various episodes. I have a very low embarrassment threshold, and my tolerance of the more one-off storylines has degraded dramatically with the Apocalypse arc (since goddamn it, if it's the Apocalypse it's happening 24/7, and that's it), so a lot of the time, I seriously abridge the show for my own comfort and need to just see what happens next. So when I say that I've actually watched the past few episodes start to finish, it's a fairly significant endorsement of higher-than-usual quality. Good job, writers. I was annoyed before, but now you're earning back some good will. Especially with some of the ridiculous one-liners. Sam off-handedly referred to as an 'abomination'? Dean 'getting laid' last time someone looked at him like that? Hilarious. Color me pleased.
So with that in mind, some more mundane observations:
-Castiel is in serious need of a hug. Like, even if I hadn't been all Dean/Cas before, I would be now just to accommodate Dean giving him a hug, because he is that desperate for one. So bring him back forthwith, and then let Dean give him hugs instead of drugs. This is my decree.
-Richard Speight Jr. needs to stop getting roles in things where he gets killed. He makes me so fond of his characters, and then they always die, goddamnit. Stop that. Now I need to imdb him again to find things where he doesn't fucking die, for once.
And on that note, I'll be changing my Dean-as-War fic to accommodate new plot points, aka to fulfill my self-indulgence quotient for the month. Stay tuned.

Date: 24 Apr 2010 10:34 (UTC)A lot of my favorite actors have a high death-to-role ratio. It's annoying.
I'm waffling between fairly pleased at how Gabriel finally made a good choice, even if he did for it, and being pissed at how SPN screwed up the gods -- Kali should have STOMPED on Lucifer, for one. She's got millions of active worshipers (which seems to power gods in SPN), *and* she's Time and Death Incarnate. WTF was wrong that she couldn't smack the Morningstar upside the head? I would have loved to see her rescue Gabriel, instead of the other way round.

But yeah, more than anything, Speight Jr. needs to stop getting killed off. He's always the one on the sidelines that you become irrationally fond of, so that when he dies it's surprisingly upsetting.

Does Speight survive *anything* he's in? I was kind of planning on Netflixing JERICHO, but if he dies there too, I'll be disappointed.

Date: 25 Apr 2010 14:21 (UTC)I'm not sure whether Speight survives in Jericho. Actually, I've been trying to track down this show from 2001 called "The Agency", because he's in 35 episodes of it apparently, but it's proving very difficult to actually find. In any case, if I ever, for some bizarre reason, meet him, I'm going to order him to actually take some roles in which his survival is certain. I'm tired of getting depressed at the end of every run he has!
