Meme time!

Man, I haven't done a meme since my high school whiny lj of awful that is now thankfully lost to deletion and the sands of time. But hey, it's the end of the first full year I've spent fully ensconced in fandom with a journal fully devoted to it and stuff. So yeah, a meme should be in order! Stolen from
coldthermistor .
Total number of completed stories: 32
Total word count: Oh jesus christ. Uh...according to my approximate word counts: ~206,130. Holy shit.
Overall Thoughts
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
Way, way more. I've been in and out of fandom over many years, and its always been in rather short-lived phases in which I mostly lurked and read, and almost never wrote. Then all of a sudden Supernatural fandom sucked me in and then before I knew it I had a journal and friends and actual things I wanted to write. It was all rather unexpected.
What's your own favorite story of the year?
Totally my Inception Big Bang, which technically isn't here yet, but I wrote it all in this year, so I'm counting it.
Did you take any writing risks this year?
Sure, a few. With the Big Bang I actually risked having a deadline, and for On the Wings of War I risked starting something I had no idea how to finish. That only semi-backfired, so wahey.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
Fucking finish On the Wings of War. Preferably within the month of January, but I'm no longer making guarantees. *facepalm*
Best & Worst Of
My best story of this year:
I really don't know. There are a lot of specific aspects of different stories that I like and dislike. So for greatest concentration of elements I like...I'm gonna go with Safe From Harm. I think that was one of the most technically proficient ones I've done. Maybe with Till Human Voices Wake Us as runner up.
My most popular story of this year:
Dies Irae, or Something, without a doubt. Also, for some reason Carpooling, which I'm still getting comments about. It's lovely but inexplicable!
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Pfft, I've gotten way more love for my scribblings than I ever expected. On a purely effort-to-comments ratio, I guess I'd go with my Wings of Steel fanmix, but even there the sheer number of downloads of the mix itself suggest it's far from under-appreciated. People are just that awesome, I guess.
Most fun story to write:
Hm. In terms of creative fun, like 'oh my god, oh my god the plot is working this is AWESOME', probably either Dies Irae or my big bang. In terms of me cackling to myself as I type, A Progression of Arguments. I entertained myself a lot with that one.
Story with the single sexiest moment:
Ahaha, I so rarely write sexy moments! But I'll go with Dean/Gabriel makeouts in Extracurriculars. Or Math for Winners. Basically, I like writing Dean and Gabriel being their debaucherous selves.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
I honestly haven't gone there. I pushed a hard R on
inception_kink one time, but even that was fairly vanilla. Let's just say that I find it really jarring to type the word 'cock', so I would find it really difficult to go the dirtynastywrong route comfortably :P
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
One of mine, I'm assuming? Um. I don't know. I don't think any of my stories directly resulted in my consideration of the characters changing, but I've definitely changed and altered my characterizations as a result of watching the source material multiple times. Lately I've been trying to write more closely to canon than fanon, and hopefully that's resulted in some fic that reflects that. Wow, I'm vague.
Hardest story to write:
Fucking On the Wings of War, man. That giant is so plotty and vast that I keep shying away from writing it. It's really problematic.
Biggest Disappointment:
I don't actually know what this means. Disappointing reception by the audience? Or most personally disappointing story? Because if I'm disappointed in a story, then I try and either edit it or forget about it, I'm not too fussed. And like I said before, I've gotten way more love from people than I ever expected, so there's no disappointment there.
Biggest Surprise:
The popularity of Carpooling. I literally spent two hours on that thing, and it's still getting comments. I really didn't think I was that funny.
Most Unintentionally Telling Story:
I honestly have no idea. The only stories I find really telling about me are my original ones. I mean, I wrestled with religion in Dies Irae with as much honesty as I could, but that was fully intentional. I know I'm "in" the stories I write, in terms of how I shape events and write the words, but I find that at least with fanfiction I'm not particularly self-conscious about it, because these characters aren't my own, so I'm not entirely responsible for their choices and feelings. I'm sure if a psychologist read everything I wrote and then tried to profile me all of this would probably bite me in the ass, but until that day, I remain blissfully ignorant of what I have betrayed of myself :P
Oh my god, when did it become the end of the year. I can't actually handle this.

Date: 30 Dec 2010 15:35 (UTC)Am totally glad Supernatural sucked you in, so that you're here now in the Inception fandom as well, for us Arthur/Cobb fans! :D
And I agree with you on the jarring bit :D I think it really explains why a lot of intimacy in yours is rather subtle. It's beautiful to read and I prefer it to in-your-face porn, anyway!

Date: 30 Dec 2010 17:19 (UTC)JANUARY CANNOT COME SOON ENOUGH!
Yeah, I can appreciate porn when it's done really well, but I've never been able to integrate it with my style. Then again, I haven't tried very hard, so oh well.
(Also, LOL your icon! Arthur's all I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE THINKING COBB. AND I THINK I LIKE IT. XD)

Date: 30 Dec 2010 17:23 (UTC)DUDE, WHAT ARE YOU SAYING, IT'S NEW YEAR'S EVE TODAY WHERE I AM. JANUARY IS COMING JUST FINE.
I agree on the porn. Urgh. Not easy. Uh, except the appreciation bit. I fail at appreciating it too, anyway.
(LOL thanks! I actually made it in a moment of lulz at a bad English translation of a Chinese movie. It was just...so bad I had to laugh. And yes, it involved 'plotting fornication'.)

Date: 30 Dec 2010 17:50 (UTC)AW MAN, THAT'S STILL TOMORROW FOR ME. Though I sort of more broadly meant, BB POSTING CANNOT COME SOON ENOUGH :D
(Oh my god, that's the most amazing mistranslation ever. You've gotta wonder who's checking these things before they're released to the general public!)

Date: 30 Dec 2010 17:52 (UTC)Oh, of course, I know what you meant ;) I was just trying to hint that it's a fourteen day countdown, not too bad, as things go!
(DUUUDE. YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE INCEPTION TRANSLATION YET. I NEARLY TIPPED MY TEA OVER ONTO THE KEYBOARD. IT IS SO DAMN HILARIOUS. ESPECIALLY HOW THEY TRANSLATED THINGS LIKE 'KICK'.)

Date: 30 Dec 2010 17:59 (UTC)See, the problem with these cheap version is that the subber basically listens to the english, takes notes in chinese. For english subs, they just run the chinese through auto-translate. It's just like Backstroke of the West. So you get very odd things like Ariadne telling Cobb to "release her" (her being Mal), and Cobb telling Arthur 'only make you one sorry'.
...and Arthur, I totally know what you mean when you look sad and say 'he do say he won't do' about Cobb.
